Program Description
Details
The audience will sail the Caribbean seas on the sound waves of steel drums with Gary Garlic as he gives a musical demonstration that charts a course in history and cultural awareness. Students will learn how the outlawing of drums on many Caribbean islands led to people innovating and inventing instruments from steel, resulting in a unique sound as they claimed their independence and developed an art form all their own. Grades K-5. Registration is required. Support for this program is secured by Arts for Learning and is provided in part by the Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission, Arts Alliance, Virginia Commission for the Arts, and the Helen G. Gifford Foundation.
